Ben Stewart - Wellington/London Photographer & dop.
Ben Stewart is a cinematographer and photographer from Wellington, New Zealand, currently based in London, UK. He has been the Director of Photography on music videos for iconic bands including TOI, Allysha Joy, Arjuna Oakes & Serebii, and Imogen Heap amongst many others. He was also the cinematographer on There is a scratch on the inside of my right knee - a funded short film based on a poem written by Paula Harris. This film has since screened at Film Festivals in England, Ireland, Canada, and the USA. Ben has a strong knowledge of lighting in relation to storytelling, and works with the client to create a unique look that suits their brand and identity. Ben also runs a video production company called Studio Halfgray, along with William Cho.
On the photography side, Ben has ample experience and skill in both creative and commercial spaces. With a professional kit of gear and an easy-going personality, Ben is a natural collaborator. He has worked on projects for MBIE, Noah’s Ark Teahouse, UberEats, Mazda, Cigna, Vodafone, Victoria University, The Spinoff, and more.
Ben completed his BMus (Honours) in Music, and a Graduate Diploma in Marketing at Victoria University. He also took place in the 2018/19 Victoria University Entrepreneurship Bootcamp, where he further developed his marketing and business skills, and he applies this knowledge to the projects he works on. The marketing plan and release strategy are often just as important as the images themselves, and Ben can help you craft a plan to maximise the results of a campaign on social media platforms. He has photographed numerous local and international artists such as Thundercat, Joe Armon-Jones, The Black Seeds, Jarni Blair (Summer Thieves) and the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band.
